I usually wake up every day instantly running through my unending “TO DO” list in my head wondering how in the world I will get it all done in 24hours. I frantically pack lunches, get kids dressed for school, sign permission slips, check emails, check voicemails, check text messages, run to meetings, run to catch flights, run to carpool, run to after school activities, run, run, run, design, design, design, work, work, work!!!!! It’s a juggling act of epic proportions! Sound familiar!?!
The pace is overwhelming and it never stops. Until you get that phone call, that wake up call, that changes your life, and you are never, ever the same.
For me that day came in June 2006 when I learned that my cousin Kendall was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two. This grief was compounded by the unspeakable loss of her unborn baby sister just six months later. These two events collided and compelled me to take action. Those two sweet little girls created a spark in me so intense that it was then, that I knew in the core of my being, that as a Mom, as a designer, as a human being in this world, that I had to do SOMETHING.
That “something” has now turned into a MOVEMENT!!!! The Kendall Kollection was designed in Kendall’s honor, and officially launched in 2008 at retail with my partner Carolina Pad. It began as notebooks and back to school supplies, and has lusciously grown into athletic apparel, bedding, tote bags, screensavers and hopefully so much more to come in the future!!!!!
It is my hope that every time someone buys a product from this Kollection they will be inspired, and take satisfaction in realizing that they are doing something good to help all the brave families who are literally in the fight of their lives. Through my partnership with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), 10% of all my personal royalties directly benefit this important organization to help find a cure for this dreadful disease.
Finally, a big thank you to each and every one of you who supported me on this journey when others said it couldn’t be done! It is YOU who inspire me, and remind me, every day, why I work so hard, and what my mission is here on earth: to create beautiful things that have the ability to pay it forward, change lives . . . and to give hope.
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting this Kollection. Spread the word and together we can create extraordinary results – every little step leads towards a cure!
