I get asked the same questions on a pretty regular basis: How do you manage three kids and a career? How do you make it work? When do you sleep?!
Today, unfortunately, I have two new reasons. Their names are Ellie Potvin and James Plotnick.
Ellie was just 6 years old when she was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer. Her long and arduous battle ended Wednesday when she passed away at the age of 8. I have been following her story for awhile now as she is from Charlotte, NC where I live AND she also wanted to be an artist when she grew up - something obviously near and dear to my heart. Her journey has been unbelievable, inspiring, and gut wrenching. Please, please go read it for yourself. Ellie will Lift You Up - I promise. www.caringbridge.org/visit/elliepotvin/journal
James was just 9 years old when he passed away in May after an extremely difficult six year battle with Leukemia. He also loved to draw - this is one of his beautiful drawings displayed to the left. I first learned about sweet James through a colleague of mine at SkirtSports, the fabulous company that I partner with to produce the Kendall Kollection athletic apparel which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. His mother Patti said, "It is true... Thanks to Nicole (CEO of Skirt Sports) and Maggi (Salesperson), I wore a sexyback black skirt sport running dress with the Kendall hoodie for James' memorial service. When we put his angel dust to rest with my grandpa, it was exactly what he would have expected me to be in... my Kendall skirt. :) "
Amy, Ellie's mom, wrote: "Ellie was God's messenger... and she is being rewarded in heaven."
"His lord said unto him, Well Done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23
I couldn't agree more Amy.
To James and Ellie: I promise that I will be YOUR messenger here on earth, creating art and designs that have the ability to PAY IT FORWARD, give hope and change lives. And maybe, just maybe, SOMEDAY, no other family will have to know the hell of losing a child.
Goodbye sweet little souls. God Bless. We are all better for knowing you.
With Love From Me to James and Ellie,
