Every day. Like it or not. Inspired or not inspired. Exhausted or well, let's be honest, I'm always exhausted (courtesy of my 3 little ones!). It's one of the pitfalls of doing what you love for a living. Sometimes, you have to churn, baby, churn for the business of it, not for the love of it. There are deadlines, there are expectations, there are bills to be paid, and clients to be made happy.
But that still doesn't mean the fabulous ideas and lusciousness are there.
In fact, more often than I'd like to admit, I stare at a blank piece of paper, blank screen, blank everything. For countless, mind-numbing hours. It's scary, it's stressful, it's overwhelming. Just waiting for "IT" to come.
If you aren't a creative person or work in a creative field, then you just don't "get it". You have probably already stopped reading this blog. It's ok, 'cause for the rest of us, it's just nice to know that we are not alone. We already know that to create every day takes ENORMOUS amounts of commitment, guts, and stamina.
It's calming knowing that other people can relate, can understand the struggle: to CREATE something out of nothing.
Here is one such person: HUGH MACLEOD. I've mentioned him before in my post "Hot Hughs".
You REALLY, REALLY need to sign up for his daily cartoon. Seriously. They are short, insightful, clever, and hit home to us artist types EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL. I usually hate seeing how much email is in my inbox (cause it takes away from my creativity!), but now I CRAVE my daily dose of Hugh, and he constantly brings me back from the brink!!!
Hugh is an incredibly successful cartoonist, great writer, and well, just go find out for yourself.
You will not regret it! Sign up now!
Here are some of my favorites (you can buy the prints too):
Thanks Hugh, you rock, seriously. Your guidance and humor are mucho mucho appreciated and needed by soooo many of us creatives. And you know who you are.
With Love (Again) From Me To Hugh,
