Ok, I'll admit it. I'm obsessed with Glee. I'm a Gleek. I've been Gleeified beyond words.
But here is why . . . not only do the main actors carry my luscious notebook designs all the time proving their set designers have absolutely fabulous taste, and not only is the music To Die For, but during last night's episode when Mercedes sang an unbelievable rendition of "Beautiful", it stopped me in my tracks. Glee, and all its loveliness, actually re-taught me a life lesson that has somehow gotten lost on my To Do List.
Before she sang, she explained how she was trying to fit into other people's vision of her, allowing others to define her, and most importantly, going against her own inner voice. She listened to too much "noise".
I've heard that song a million times, but until last night, I've never actually "heard" it.
At that moment, I realized how much "noise" I've let into my life - loud, mind numbing, irritating noise. Well, no more. Life is too short and it is too "Beautiful".
So, next time you're feeling down, tired of all the noisy people, turn on an episode of Glee, take a deep breath, and remember that words can't bring you down. Only you know the truth of YOU.
Thank You Mercedes, Rock On.

Seriously. Fire is my natural hair color! But, guess what - there are others who wear this lovely hue too!
Throughout my career, I've been so fortunate to cross paths with some amazing women who are literally setting the world on fire with their hair on fire! Their professional accomplishments, commitments to their families and communities, combined with their ability to run from sun up to sun down while juggling it all is awe-inspiring.
Luscious Lady No.1: LEIGH OSHIRAK. I met Leigh a few weeks ago in Chicago and suffice it to say - she had me at "Hello". Her resume alone would knock your socks off, and currently she is a Big Wig in Corporate America for a very luscious nationally known retailer as a publicist and marketing guru. She is also the co-founder of The Office Moms. As if this weren't enough - she actually found the time to write a FREAKIN BOOK!!! Seriously - "Balance is a Crock, Sleep is for the Weak" was just published and hit the stores yesterday! It chronicles the never ending rollercoaster ride of being a working mother. Go check it out at Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, or Indie Bound. It will not disappoint! Leigh will tell you though, that her greatest accomplishment to date, is her sweet little boy named JackJack.
Luscious Lady No.2: DR. ALYSE KELLY-JONES. It has been 8 years since the day I walked into Alyse's office. I was a new patient, newly pregnant with my first child, new to Charlotte, and completely scared. After about 5 minutes into our consultation, we knew we were gonna be like total BFF's! Her chart reads like this: a physician/partner at Mintview Women's Care, a triathlete, and the founder of Tri It For Life which is an unbelievable organization that inspires women of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and abilities to get off their booties and accomplish the unthinkable - become a TRIATHLETE. She was also just recently nominated as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Charlotte. She does all this while also being the mom to three boys and wife to amazing hubby Richard. AND she scrapbooks. Whatever.
The following quote is from Alyse who is talking about becoming a triathlete, but I think it speaks to every endeavor we choose to follow, every obstacle we have to overcome, and whatever challenges we face as women:
"What you've decided to do will be difficult, but you're a woman. You're used to doing difficult things and doing them extremely well."
Thank you Leigh and Alyse for inspiring me more than you both will ever know, and for proving once again that GIRLS RULE!!!
